Opening: Executive Director (ED) for the Digital Trust & Safety Partnership (DTSP)
The Digital Trust & Safety Partnership (DTSP) seeks an entrepreneurial, self-starting, experienced leader to serve as its founding executive director (ED).
The DTSP, a 501(c)(6) organization, is committed to developing and iterating upon industry best practices for consumer trust & safety in the use of digital services. The DTSP seeks an experienced ED focused on advancing this core mission, and improving practice and educating within and without industry on matters of trust & safety. This position presents the unique opportunity to be the founding chief executive of a non-profit industry organization charged with helping to make the Internet a safer and more trustworthy place. Reporting to the DTSP Board of Directors (Board), the ED will develop and execute a strategy for advancing the organization’s mission, technical work, and other programs.
The DTSP is a member-funded, dues-based organization, currently being incubated by the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA), a separate non-profit technology trade association.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Being the public face of the Digital Trust & Safety Partnership, and the business community’s efforts in digital trust & safety
- Facilitating the work of the partnership’s committees and managing technical work within the organization
- Incorporating DTSP core values and mission into all organization activities
- Actively engaging DTSP Board, advisors, partners, and peers in the trust & safety space to advance the organization’s mission and values
- Tracking and reporting on DTSP efforts and organizational status to the DTSP Board
- Leading all public communications of the Partnership to maintain a public brand associated with circumspect expertise and excellence
- Recommending timelines and identifying resources to the Board required to achieve the organization’s mission, including developing and implementing an annual budget
- Expanding corporate membership through recruiting
- Fostering collaboration among existing industry members
- Executing any public input mechanisms designed by the DTSP Board, and informally soliciting and incorporating feedback in DTSP processes from relevant stakeholders, including civil society and government constituencies
- Educating and raising awareness within and without industry regarding industry efforts on trust & safety.
8-10 years relevant work experience in fields such as trust & safety and product design/development, compliance, risk assessment, standards development, multistakeholder engagement (inc. with government). Bachelors’ degree or equivalent required; relevant postgraduate education is desirable.
- Experience in trust & safety policy and/or operations, with a deep understanding of historical and current issues in the field
- Proven track record in operational management, with a track record in recruiting, motivating, and developing high-performance teams
- Experience in setting and achieving strategic goals, designing, managing, and scaling projects, as well as managing budgets and managing membership operations/coalitions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate confidently and persuasively with experts across multiple disciplines and backgrounds
- You exhibit leadership presence, are a clear and effective communicator with excellent cultural fluency, a global mindset; ability to think holistically, with a bias to action, exemplary problem solving skills and extraordinary attention to detail.
The ideal candidate will also possess:
- Experience engaging senior industry leadership, government officials, civil society and academia in domestic and international fora
- You have an affinity to online safety and ideally have extensive experience in digital trust & safety operations
- Experience in risk, compliance, assurance, and standards efforts in other sectors or arenas, e.g., cybersecurity
- An intuitive understanding of the need to reduce content- and behavior-related risks in the digital ecosystems while also fostering privacy and advancing principles of free expression and other fundamental rights.
