The use of a fictitious name, different from one’s legal name, in order to, for example, conceal one’s identity or protect one’s privacy.

Commentary:

  • Pseudonymity is different from anonymity because, through consistent use, a pseudonymous author can build a reputation around their identity and the actions that they perform under it.
  • Sometimes used interchangeably with “identity shielding.”
